Google Cloud GCAT Difference Maker Award 2026: Winner Insights & What It Takes to Get Recognized

Voiced by Amazon Polly

There are certain moments in life that remind you why you started your journey in the first place. Winning the Google Cloud GCAT Difference Maker Award 2026 was one such unforgettable moment for me.

When I first stepped into the world of cloud technology and technical training, I never imagined that my work would one day be recognized on a global stage by the Google Cloud Learning Services community. This award is not just a recognition of teaching; it is a celebration of passion, consistency, community contribution, and the real impact we have on learners’ lives every single day.

What Is the Google Cloud GCAT Difference Maker Award?

The GCAT (Google Cloud Authorized Trainer) Difference Maker Award is presented by Google Learning Services to trainers who go beyond standard course delivery and make a meaningful, lasting contribution to the cloud learning ecosystem.

Recipients are recognized for:

  • Consistently setting themselves apart through dedication and delivery excellence
  • Maintaining strong learner satisfaction and CSAT scores
  • Being a strong advocate and ambassador for Google Cloud Learning Services
  • Inspiring learners, mentor communities, and supporting fellow trainers

Being selected among trainers across the global Google Cloud ecosystem is both humbling and deeply motivating.

How Did I (Laxmi Sharma) Become a Google Cloud Authorized Trainer?

Becoming a GCAT was not a single leap; it was a series of deliberate steps driven by curiosity and a deep love for teaching.

My journey began with hands-on exploration of cloud fundamentals, where I quickly realized that cloud technology was not just a technical shift; it was a career-defining wave for millions of professionals. I invested in building deep expertise across Google Cloud Platform, earning certifications, and designing real-world learning experiences that went beyond textbooks.

At CloudThat, I had the opportunity to grow from delivering foundational cloud training to leading advanced, industry-aligned programs across GCP, AI/ML, and Data Engineering. To become a GCAT, trainers must meet Google Cloud’s rigorous standards- demonstrating deep subject matter expertise, consistently high learner satisfaction scores, and the ability to deliver Google’s official curriculum with quality and impact.

Over 5 years, with 12,000+ learners trained across startups, enterprises, and Big-4 organizations, I didn’t just meet those standards; I made it my mission to exceed them every single day. Every session taught me something new, not just technically, but also about communication, patience, leadership, and empathy.

One belief has guided every session I’ve delivered:

“Training is not just about delivering content; it is about transforming confidence.”

This belief has been my north star throughout every session. Technical knowledge matters, but what learners truly carry with them long after a course ends is how they felt during the journey — whether they felt capable, supported, and inspired to take the next step. Every session I design and deliver is built around that single idea: leave every learner more confident than when they walked in.

Going Beyond the Classroom

The GCAT Difference Maker Award is not handed out for simply completing training deliveries. It recognizes trainers who go measurably beyond, and here is what that looks like in practice:

  • Consistent Learner Impact: Maintaining outstanding learner satisfaction scores across diverse audiences, industries, and geographies over an extended period.
  • Community Contribution: Actively supporting fellow GCATs, sharing resources, participating in Google Cloud learning communities, and elevating the ecosystem as a whole, not just your own classroom.
  • Innovation in Delivery: Finding creative, engaging ways to make complex cloud concepts accessible through storytelling, hands-on labs, real-world scenarios, and personalized mentorship.
  • Going Beyond the Curriculum: Supporting learners outside scheduled hours, guiding career transitions, troubleshooting labs, and being genuinely invested in learner outcomes.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Mentoring aspiring trainers, contributing to content development, and helping build a stronger next generation of cloud professionals.
  • Reputation & Trust: Being the trainer that learners recommend, return to, and credit when they pass certifications or land new roles.

Winning this award means that Google Cloud’s Learning Services community recognized not just what you teach, but the lasting difference you create.

The Moment of Recognition

When I saw my name announced among the Difference Maker 2026 Winners, it felt surreal.

Representing CloudThat on such a platform made the moment even more special. It reminds me that every effort counts — the extra preparation, the late-night support calls, the continuous learning, and the dedication to improving every session.

This recognition belongs not only to me, but also to my mentors, my managers, my colleagues, my learners, and the entire CloudThat family who supported my growth throughout this journey.

Lessons from Five Years of Cloud Training

Five years. 12,000+ learners. Hundreds of sessions across time zones, industries, and skill levels. If there is one thing that a journey like this teaches you, it is that the classroom is always a two-way street — learners grow, but so does the trainer.

Here are the lessons that have stayed with me long after the sessions ended:

  • Consistency creates more impact than intensity. It is not the one brilliant session that changes a learner’s trajectory — it is showing up prepared, energized, and genuinely invested, every single time. Small, steady efforts compound into something far greater than any single standout moment.
  • Technical knowledge is only half the job. The other half is empathy. Understanding where a learner is struggling, knowing when to slow down, when to encourage, and when to simply listen — these are skills no certification teaches you. They come from paying attention to people, not just content.
  • The best teachers never stop being students. Cloud technology does not pause for anyone. Every year brings new services, new architectures, and new ways of solving old problems. Staying curious, earning new certifications, and approaching every new topic with a beginner’s mindset have kept my training relevant and my learners ahead of the curve.
  • Your energy is contagious -use it intentionally. Walk into a session flat, and the room will feel it. Walk in with genuine enthusiasm for the subject, and learners lean in. Passion is not just a personality trait — in a training room, it is a teaching tool.
  • The impact you don’t see is often the most meaningful. Many learners never send a follow-up message. But occasionally, months later, someone reaches out to say they landed a new role, led a cloud migration, or finally passed that certification they had been working toward. Those moments are reminders that the ripple effect of good teaching travels far beyond what we can measure.

Consistency creates more impact than intensity. I remember a learner who attended three of my GCP sessions over six months, each time coming back with new questions, a new certification attempt under his belt, and a little more confidence than before. He didn’t transform overnight. Neither did I as his trainer. But by the third session, he was answering questions that I had been answering for him.

Looking Ahead

Winning this award is not the end of the journey, it is a responsibility to contribute even more to the cloud learning community.

Going forward, I am focused on:

  • Helping more professionals transition into cloud and AI careers
  • Contributing to Google Cloud and AI learning initiatives
  • Mentoring aspiring trainers entering the GCAT community
  • Creating accessible, high-quality technical content for learners at all levels
  • Making cloud learning engaging for both beginners and experienced engineers

Final Thoughts

Awards are wonderful milestones, but the real reward is seeing learners grow, succeed, and gain confidence. The GCAT Difference Maker Award 2026 is a reminder that passion, dedication, and genuine effort never go unnoticed.

A heartfelt thank you to Google Cloud Learning Services, the GCAT community, CloudThat, my mentors and managers, and every learner who trusted me during their learning journey.

Your support and encouragement made this achievement possible.

And this is just the beginning.
