Introduction

Hello folks!

If you are a fresher in technology, especially in Cloud Computing, and not sure where to start or how to understand the fundamentals of Cloud, AWS has rolled out a metaverse game that clarifies the above dilemma.

Now, if you think all these games have a learning curve, these games also improve your visual attention, counting skills, focusing skills, conceptualization, and many more.

Likewise, AWS Cloud Quest: Cloud Practitioner, as described by AWS, is a “role-playing learning game that helps you develop practical cloud skills through interactive learning and hands-on activities using AWS services.”

About the AWS Cloud Quest Game

As quoted by Aristotle, “For the things we have to learn before we can do them, we learn by doing them.” Same way, AWS’s goal is to make cloud computing concepts real through interactive and hands-on activities that can turn the learner’s theories into practice.

AWS Cloud Quest is a 3D role-playing game designed for adult learners to gain practical AWS experience. So, the game consists of multiple quests which must be completed to build a better city and help people build their cloud skills. The quests have videos, quizzes, and hands-on exercises based on real-world business scenarios.

My Observations & First-Hand Experience

After understanding the ideology of Cloud Quest, I thought of trying it out. So, initially, I had to log in to my AWS Skill builder account; that’s where the game could be played. Then came the part where I had to design my avatar and give an identity to myself. In total, the game had 12 levels or quests, as this game illustrates.

The game started with me being on a platform without buildings or anything. After that, I came to my first quest, where there was another character, one of the residents of that city, talking about the problem they were facing with their static webpage, which alerts the locals when there is a high tide wave on the beach. So, according to the scenario, the S3 service was suggested.

Once I understood the scenario, I had to accept the challenge, and then my character was moved to the Solution centre, where I learned how to resolve this issue with the given service. During this part, I learned the fundamentals of the respective service in 4 steps. Learn -> Plan -> Practice -> DIY.

In the learning and planning part, I found the videos of the concepts, which are hardly 6-8 mins in duration, and a structure of the architecture with a detailed description. Then came the part of practicing the concepts that I had learned with a complete guide alongside. Finally, I got to perform a task on that service without any guide or help. The same steps were followed in the remaining 11 quests with different services each time. After completing all the 12 quests successfully, I also got free access code to the AWS Cloud Practitioner Practice exam, which is valid for a limited time.

Conclusion

So, from my view, I would say that AWS Cloud Quest, which creates a kind of metaverse environment, as mentioned in a few articles, is all that a beginner needs to understand the basic working fundamentals of AWS Cloud services. Although AWS has never mentioned the term metaverse in any of their blogging and documentation, we could see that this new training initiative might be seen as an initial foray into the space. And people who are going for the AWS Cloud Practitioner exam can try this out and drop a comment below to let me know how helpful was it to you.
