Earning the Microsoft Certified: Azure Databricks Data Engineer Associate (DP-750) certification is an exciting milestone in my continuous learning journey. I recently passed the exam and wanted to share my preparation strategy, the learning resources that helped me most, and some advice for anyone planning to take this certification.
I have been working with Azure data engineering technologies for several years, and the DP-750 certification was an excellent opportunity to deepen my expertise in Azure Databricks and validate my practical skills.

Why DP-750?
Modern organizations are increasingly adopting lakehouse architectures, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog to build scalable analytics platforms. Microsoft designed the DP-750 certification to validate the practical skills required to implement these solutions using Azure Databricks.
The certification focuses on real-world data engineering scenarios, including building data pipelines with Apache Spark, working with Delta Lake tables, managing data through Unity Catalog, optimizing Spark workloads, implementing governance and security, developing production-ready ETL pipelines, monitoring workloads, troubleshooting issues, and orchestrating processes with Azure Databricks Workflows. My preparation followed a mixed approach, with a strong emphasis on hands-on practice.

I started with the official Microsoft Learn DP-750 learning path, which provides structured coverage of all the exam objectives. The learning path covers Azure Databricks fundamentals, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, data ingestion, data transformation, data engineering pipelines, performance optimization, security, governance, and workload monitoring. I found the content to be well-organized and closely aligned with the skills measured in the certification exam.
Hands-on Labs – The Most Valuable Resource
Reading documentation alone isn’t enough to prepare for DP-750. The official Microsoft hands-on labs were the most valuable part of my preparation because they provided practical experience with every major concept covered in the certification.
Through these labs, I gained experience creating Azure Databricks workspaces, developing notebooks, working with Apache Spark, ingesting and transforming data, creating Delta Lake tables, implementing Delta Live Tables, configuring Unity Catalog, building Databricks Workflows, optimizing performance, and applying data engineering best practices. If I had to recommend only one preparation resource, it would be these official labs.
Official Study Guide
The official study guide helped me understand the exam objectives and ensured that I didn’t overlook any important topics during my preparation. Rather than treating it as something to memorize, I used it as a checklist and made sure I practiced every skill mentioned.
Topics to Focus On
During my preparation, I found that certain topics deserved extra attention because they are essential for both the DP-750 exam and real-world projects. These include Apache Spark DataFrames and Spark SQL, Delta Lake features, Structured Streaming, Unity Catalog, data ingestion techniques, cluster configuration, performance optimization, and monitoring workloads. Rather than memorizing commands, focus on understanding when and why to use each feature.
