The organization struggled with error-prone manual secret rotations, frequent downtime risks, and audit gaps. Managing credentials across multiple environments and syncing secrets across services like Amazon Aurora, Amazon Redshift, and ElastiCache added operational complexity and increased the risk of disruptions.
• Integrated password rotation into the CI/CD pipeline using AWS and Kubernetes-native tools via a GitOps model.
• Used AWS CodePipeline and Secrets Manager for secure, scalable, repeatable secret rotation.
• Updated InputParameters.json in CodeCommit to define environment, DB user, and exemptions.
• Triggered the pipeline by committing changes to CodeCommit (prod or non-prod).
• Rotated secrets in AWS Secrets Manager for Aurora, Redshift, and ElastiCache.
• Validated updates by checking application pods for refreshed secrets.
• Verified consistency via environment variables and application config checks.
Achieved 100% manual effort elimination and compliance through automated CI/CD password rotation with >99% success rate and zero downtime.
