TeamNest was running a 300 GB RDS PostgreSQL 12.19 instance nearing end-of-support, exposing the platform to security and compatibility risks. Without a formal backup and DR strategy, downtime or data loss could affect multiple SaaS customers. The setup also lacked optimization for future workloads, demanding a low-risk upgrade plan.
• Pre-upgrade assessment of PostgreSQL 12 configuration, extensions, and dependencies for compatibility with PostgreSQL 14.
• Implementation of a blue-green deployment by creating a new RDS instance from the latest snapshot, upgrading it to PostgreSQL 14, and validating before cutover.
• Optimization of RDS parameters for improved replication, worker processes, and query handling.
• Execution of data protection measures, including final snapshots, automated backups, and rollback capability.
• Cutover of application traffic to the upgraded environment followed by monitoring and fine-tuning performance.
The upgrade to PostgreSQL 14 was completed without data loss, ensuring platform stability and business continuity. Downtime was minimized through blue-green deployment, while optimized configurations delivered faster queries and better resource utilization. Security and disaster recovery readiness were also significantly enhanced.
