The Challenge

The customer encountered challenges with their Azure-based infrastructure, which comprised a three-tier application architecture utilizing Java Tomcat, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and Kafka. Their existing setup struggled to meet the increasing demands for scalability, reliability, and flexibility. Additionally, they needed a resilient disaster recovery (DR) solution with an Active-Active architecture to achieve near real-time recovery time (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO). This migration was essential to ensure seamless shop-floor operations and align with their business continuity objectives.

Solutions

• Set up AWS account with security best practices (IAM, MFA, root protection).
• Migrated applications and databases from Azure to AWS using AWS Migration Hub and AWS MGN.
• Deployed Amazon EC2 instances for web, application, and database tiers in production.
• Implemented monitoring and compliance tools (Amazon CloudWatch, AWS Backup, AWS CloudTrail).
• Configured Application Load Balancer and optimized traffic distribution.
• Enabled data encryption and secure Amazon S3 storage configuration.
• Established Multi-Site Active-Active DR setup with AWS DMS and Amazon Route 53 for failover.
• Set up secure Site-to-Site VPN for encrypted communication between on-premise and AWS.

The Results

Achieved 99.99% uptime, improved system performance by 25%, and reduced costs by 40% through AWS migration, Active-Active DR, and enhanced security, while ensuring operational efficiency and business continuity.
